Presbyterian Church of the Siuslaw is looking for an Interim/Transitional Pastor, who can lead worship, provide pastoral care, administer oversight and steer the congregation through this time of transition. Our Church:
The Presbyterian Community Church has a total active membership of 79. Over 80 percent of our current members are retired. Most have moved to Florence, Oregon to enjoy the beauty of the Oregon Coast and the community full of volunteer opportunities. We are a congregation affiliated with PC (USA). We are blessed with gifted musicians and artists that share their gifts with the church and community. Around five years ago we embraced a new Mission statement – Know Christ, Serve Christ, Share Christ. Examples of how we currently support our mission statement include, but are not limited to: Weekly Sunday worship service, Adult Bible Study groups, Prayer Chain Ministry, Chancel and English Handbell Choirs, a Community Peer-Support Grief Group, A Place 4 Kids play group, First Step – Florence Solutions for Housing Security a registered as a 501(c)(3), Presbyterian Women and Book Group. Also, our church facility hosts a variety of community organizations.
Purpose:
We are looking for an Interim/Transitional Pastor, who can lead worship, provide pastoral care, administer oversight and steer this congregation through this time of transition.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Help the congregation address the five tasks of an Interim/Transitional Pastor: Come to Terms with History through Conversations and Healing; Discover the Church’s Identity; Empower Leadership of the Congregation; Affirm the Connectional Linkage as a Presbyterian Church; and Make New Commitments to the Future and New Leadership.
- Oversee the staff, leading, directing and supervising the pastoral program and support staff as appropriate.
- Preach, lead worship, administer sacraments, and provide a teaching ministry that will encourage the spiritual growth of the membership and their outreach to the community in evangelism and mission
- Collaborate with the session, the congregation, and organizations in articulating vision and developing programs reflective of our calling to be a community in Christ and faithful followers of Christ.
- Provide pastoral care for those in need, visiting church members and counsel as needed. Officiate weddings and funerals as needed.
- Participate, as appropriate, in the work and ministry of governing bodies beyond the session and ecumenical groups.
- Plan for and participate in educational programs for personal and professional development in consultation with the Personnel Committee.
Relationships:
Relates, if appropriate, to the staff as head of staff, the session as moderator, the members as pastor, commissions and committees as ex-officio members and servant leader, and the presbytery as a continuing member.
Evaluation:
Performance review will be conducted at least annually by the Personnel Committee, who will review the adequacy of compensation annually at a separate time.
Terms of Call:
Interim/Transitional Pastor: full-time preferred (part-time will be considered).
Target start date:
As soon as possible.
Length of service:
1 year contract, renewable for 6 to 12 months.
Hours:
Serving approximately 20-40 hours per week.
Salary/Housing Allowance:
$59,640-$63,500 – Assuming full-time (FTE). Part-time to be negotiated.

- Professional Expense budget: $3,500
- Continuing Education: $1,500
- Paid Vacation: Four weeks
- Study Leave: Two weeks
- Full pension, medical, disability and death coverage under the Board of Pensions.
