Global Church Conference Re-Imagined – First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley – October 4-6, 2019
Global Church Conference, hosted by First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley, the weekend of October 4-6, 2019. We would love to have you join us for this event.
The theme of this weekend is about the “Displaced and Sojourners”. In recent years our university ministry has traveled to Veracruz, Mexico to work with a women-run organization called Las Patronas (The Bosses). Las Patronas received the National Human Rights Award in 2013 as well as various other awards and nominations for their work helping migrants travelling North. During that time, BBC News wrote about their work. Please see https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-28193230.
Norma Romero heads up the strong efforts of Las Patronas and will be with us sharing her story in various settings. Norma has expressed concern about what happens to the people she is supporting and feeding as they make their way out of dangerous and oppressed situations. Where do they end up? And are they getting new support that can help them establish a new life in a new world? Norma and some of our mission partners (1951 Coffee, Oakland International High School, Harbor House and International Rescue Committee), who are instrumental in serving as a cornerstone for the refugees and displaced, will be at First Pres. Berkeley on Friday evening October 4 at 7 pm to answer these questions. In addition, David Vasquez-Levy, President of Pacific School of Religion, and Norma will be with us on Sunday morning to further enlighten us about this current issue facing our world.
