Presbytery Greetings: November 2023 Newsletter

This year Siena (age 11) decided to be Shinobu from the Japanese manga series “Demon Slayer” for Halloween. Like most kids her age, she chose this costume because her friends had also decided to be Shinobu. However, after being asked who Shinobu was multiple times, Siena finally admitted to me that she didn’t know. “How can you be someone if you don’t know who you are?” she asked in tears. Wow, what a question, not just for her costume, but for life in general.

Starting with what we already knew about Shinobu, we decided to watch the Netflix show together to learn more. While the content was violent, the storyline of caring for one’s family, even if it means hard work and self-sacrifice, rang true. With this new knowledge, Siena was more confident about her costume.
